Cooling System Services in London, ON

Cooling System Repair For All Vehicle Makes & Models

Your vehicle’s cooling system consists of a cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, radiator, heater core, heater valve, and various other parts that work together to dissipate and remove heat from a vehicle’s engine. The cooling system reduces the temperature inside your engine and prevents possible overheating that can lead to total engine failure.

Let us take care of all your Cooling System  needs.

If your vehicle is due for cooling system maintenance or if any of your dashboard lights or gauges are indicating that your engine is overheating, then bring your vehicle to Dundas Automotive Repair.

A properly maintained cooling system in your car can protect your engine from overheating and permanent damage.

How does your cooling system work?

Your car’s engine produces heat just shy of the boiling point, which makes it necessary to have a fully functional cooling system to keep it within the prescribed temperature. To remove the heat, the engine uses several components and fluid which includes antifreeze/coolant, radiator & radiator fans, water pump, pressure cap and expansion tank, temperature switch, head gasket, heater core, hoses and thermostat.

The water pump spins with the help of the belts which are connected to the main engine. The main objective of the pump is to circulate the coolant through the pipes and engine to the radiator. The radiator fans chill the returning coolant.

In case of excessive pressure, the radiator cap opens a valve and allows the coolant to flow through an overflow pipe. Similarly, the temperature switch keeps an eye on the temperature, and switches on the fans as and when required.

The entire cooling system keeps the engine functioning and the temperature maintained as many engine parts cannot handle the excess heat. A small failure in any of the cooling components could lead to a potential failure of the engine.

Common problems of the cooling system

There are several signs that indicate vehicle cooling system failure including steam coming from the engine, an illuminated dashboard indicator warning light or gauge, a noisy water pump, antifreeze leaking onto the ground underneath the engine, thick white smoke coming from the tailpipe and/or engine oil that looks like a mocha milkshake when you inspect the oil dipstick. If your car, light truck, SUV, crossover or van shows any of these signs, give Dundas Automotive a call immediately at 519-455-0470 to schedule service and repair.

Coolant Flush in London ,Ontario

We recommend that a coolant flush be done every 120,000kms. Engine coolant, also known as antifreeze, is a heat transfer fluid designed to remove excess heat from your engine. The engine creates a lot of energy and heat while the car is moving. The coolant absorbs the heat from the engine and stops the engine water from boiling in the summer. It also ensures metal parts don’t rust and rubber or plastic parts don’t corrode. Without the coolant, the heat produced during constant internal combustion would ruin the engine very quickly.

Over time, the old anti-freeze loses its anti-corrosive properties, which allows for contaminants to build up in the cooling system. Getting a coolant flush will clean these particles from the system. Getting a coolant flush will prevent the old anti-freeze from becoming acidic. This is important because once it starts to become acidic it will break down and can damage the bearing in the water pump, the rubber hoses and the aluminum components of the engine.

A coolant flushes remove rust and scale deposits, which build up over time. It’s important to get rid of these deposits because they can cause overheating and damage your entire cooling system. The new anti-freeze that goes in contains additives that work to lubricate your automobile’s water pump, which can help extend the life of your water pump. The additives in the new anti-freeze also help prevent rust from building up in the water pump, which allows the cooling system to operate more efficiently.

Quick List of Benefits

  • Removes rust and scale deposits
  • Extends the life of your water pump
  • Prevents rust from building
  • Cleans particles from the system.
  • Prevents the old anti-freeze from becoming acidic
